20 August 2010 - Vanstaadensrus Farmers Day
On 13 August Mr. Clynton Collett was asked to give a talk on Selection Under Extensive Conditions. After many lecturers gave their talks on how a big role feeding and management plays in the "survival" of your animals, Mr Collett's talk was a huge contrast to that of the animal feeding specialists but as always stirred up HUGE interest and got some minds thinking. When he spoke of some of the things he has been able to achieve through purpousefull selection under natural condition, some thought he was lying and could just not believe. It was just another eye opener for us to see that sometimes when people fall into a certain way of thinking or farming it just carries on for generations, as the saying goes... "i'll farm that way because my father farmed that way and he made a living". That kind of reasoning just doesn't make any sense. Times change in so many ways. Thank you to Pieter Schalk Grobler of Wepener for organizing the day for us, it was a great success.

We see this as a huge blessing and would like to thank all the breeders that bought from us and those who placed a bid on one or more of our rams. Please feel free to contact us should you want to have anymore information of the rams performance figures etc. We hope that you have the desired results and much success with Collett Farming's superior genetics rams.

5 June 2010 - Rustenburg Meatmaster Sale
From Left to right: Buyer, Mr. R Liebenberg (HANRI STUD) buyer of the most expensive ram R10 100, Seller - M du Preez (COLLETT FARMING CC), Auctioneer, Mr. J Boshoff (ERPO AFSLAERS)
On the 3rd and 4th of June the Meatmaster Society had their annual Rustenburg Expo and Sale. Collett Farming CC was proud to have a breed representative in the 2 tooth devision for rams and in the senior devision for the ewes. At the sale we where again blessed with good prices where we averaged R 5377 for 9 rams and R 6050 for two old ewes with lambs. We would like to thank everyone who came to support us and we truly hope that our animals will make more profit for you. The average for the entire sale for 19 rams was R 3731 and for 47 ewes R1 468. Collett Farming CC also had the most expensive ram that sold for R10 100 to Mr. Riaan Liebenberg. The ram was still only a lamb, he is the son of one of our Main Stud Rams CRC 7417 (Bucaneer), the right type of ram for Mr. Liebenberg's climate and area. We also had the most expensive ewe that went for R 7 500 sold to Mr Rassie van der Vyfer, she was mainly bought for the ram lamb she had at foot, thou she is of high quality, her production years are few, but we trust that the ram lamb will live up to Mr. van der Vyfers expectations.
19 March 2010 - SOLD ALL OUR AFRINOS
This was a sad day for us as we had decided to sell all our Afrino's. The decision was not made due to a negative attitude or any disipointments regarding the breed, we have always believe and still believe that there is a big future for the Afrino and it is still the toughest of all woolbreeds. We had to make a management decision as running 3 studs just took to much of our time and energy. We decided to carry on just with the Polled Borans and the Meatmasters. If you are interested in Afrinos, please still contact us and we will put you in contact with the buyer. We are pleased to say that all the stock went to one buyer, Mr. Denwill Collett and his son-in-law Dirkie Ackerman. They are going to carry on with the stud. We will be selling the last few of our stud rams at next years Afrino sale in Bethulie.
8-12 March 2010 - Namibia Tour ( GRÜNAU, MALTAHöE, AROAB)
On the 8th of March Clynton and Mario went with various other Meatmaster breeders to Namibia on a tour to go and talk to sheep breeders who where interested in the Meatmaster. Like most tours it was a very tight schedule with lots of traveling and little time. Our three stops where GrÜnau, Maltahöe and Aroab. We where extremely well received at all the venues and we would like to thank the organizers at each town who helped at making these field days a big success. We have learned very quickly that Namibia has its own unique challenges regarding farming and the marketing of their products. This proved to us more than ever that there truly is a greater need for a sheep, like the Meatmaster.
